Welcome to the fourteenth Pactoria dev blog. While exploring Pactoria you might stumble across ancient structures scattered around the world. Those are outposts, and they're now a system of their own.

What outposts do

Outposts can be sieged and taken over, and whoever holds one earns a steady stream of loot and crown coffers for as long as they keep control of it. Once a nation holds an outpost it follows that nation's vulnerability window, so when the nation is vulnerable, so are all of its outposts. No casus belli is needed to siege one.

The three tiers

  • Tier one outposts are small and easy to attack, a good entry point for newer nations.
  • Tier two outposts are medium sized, and taking one relies far more on strategy and skill.
  • Tier three outposts are the biggest and rarest. These take serious numbers to siege or defend, and only the strongest nations, sometimes backed by alliances, stand a real chance of holding one.

Why they're worth fighting for

Some outposts produce custom resources that towns need for their nexus quests. Holding one means you can sell that resource to other nations for their quests while breezing through your own, which makes certain outposts a genuinely huge advantage to control.

Why we added this

A lot of nations never really get to experience war. They're focused on building and roleplay, and the fear of losing their town keeps them out of conflict entirely. Outpost warfare gives everyone a way to siege, fight and enjoy it without that risk. Keep inventory stays on during these sieges, so nobody walks away with real losses. It keeps people sharp and gives every nation a reason to stay on guard.

The bigger picture

Outposts aren't only a combat feature, they're a political one. Treaties and agreements can form around holding them, especially as many sit in strategic locations, which adds a real layer to the server's geopolitics.

For the lore fans, every outpost is a remnant of an ancient civilization with its own story tied into the wider lore of the world, and some of them connect to each other. Worth digging into if you want to weave them into your own nation's story.

See you in the next one.
