Welcome to the sixteenth Pactoria dev blog. Two problems a lot of servers run into are caves running dry of ore over time, and the world slowly getting ruined and griefed. We have systems for both.

There is no ore in the ground

Right now the map doesn't have a single ore generated in it. Not one. Instead, ores generate around players as they head underground and start mining, so the vein you find is one that appeared for you, not one that's been sitting there since the world was made waiting for whoever got there first.

Caves that never run dry

It's balanced so that returning to a cave you've already stripped means fresh ores appearing in new spots as the old ones fade away, almost like exploring it for the first time again. No mining world needed, no resets, no racing everyone else to untouched chunks. The cave under your town is just as worth mining on day two hundred as it was on day one.

The world heals itself

Outside of claimed land, the wilderness slowly puts itself back together. Trees grow back where they were felled, broken blocks are replaced, and anything placed out in the wild eventually disappears. Dirt towers, abandoned shacks, a hole somebody dug and walked away from, the world takes it all back in time.

What stays protected

Regeneration is careful about what it touches. Safety measures are built in so the roads and paths you've made in the wilderness stay exactly where they are and won't be wiped away with everything else. Build something worth keeping, and it keeps.

See you in the next one
